Walter Anderson

Hi, this is Walter. My experience with music came later in life but at just the right time. I was a college freshman in 2008 and depressed beyond belief during campus life adjustments. Meanwhile, I kept imagining melodies in my mind that were comforting to me. I eventually found Finale Notation Software and taught myself to sketch the melodies in my thoughts. At the same college, Dr. David Salvage encouraged me to continue composing even though I had no formal training besides his private composition lessons. He taught me that folks like Hans Zimmer and Danny Elfman also have unconventional, autodidactic backgrounds in music. I continued to dabble in composition while teaching myself bass guitar, drums, and taking paid contract musician work in Arizona. Everything changed when I discovered Stephan Moccio's felt piano in 2020. The energy of inspiration hit very quickly, and I wanted to compose again. I found purpose in sharing my melodies using the tinder timbre of felt piano. Recently, I rekindled my love for piano and strings (specifically piano and cello). I am fascinated with the role that culture plays in our perception of sound. Ancestry also plays a huge part as I seek to honor the legacy and gifts of past generations, especially how their musical tastes continue to affect us now. I hope my music is a space for relaxation and reflection in this increasingly hectic world. Thanks for listening.
