Elvis Costello emerged alongside the first wave of British punk in the late 1970s and became one of the defining voices of the UK new wave movement. Backed by The Attractions, he built a reputation for sharp songwriting and distinctive vocals, helping shape the sound of the era.
His 1979 single “Oliver’s Army” reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. Across his career, Costello has released an extensive catalog spanning rock, pop, soul, country, jazz, classical, and film music. In 2019, his album Look Now won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.
Costello has collaborated widely, including co-writing with Paul McCartney and recording the album Painted from Memory with Burt Bacharach. He has also worked with artists and producers including T-Bone Burnett and The Roots, and has contributed music to film and television projects.
