The Visual: The Troy Alexis’ work is to give a new perspective on life. The experience he wants people to feel as they listen to his music is a very reflective and colorful image within their own being and life! Bringing together multiple genres, cultures and different forms of art is a way Troy can bring his true expression into reality! The general vision is to bring people together based on their individual differences and experiences in life.

The Gift: The Troy Alexis is A Professional Dancer as well as Dance Instructor including Freestyle, Hip Hop, Ballroom, Jazz, Contemporary, etc. He is also a Professional Model, who does freelance as well as works with Models Inc. for High Fashion Runway and Print. He then created his record label, known as “Young Bulls LLC,” with the help of his Manager at the time. He created a small team (Yung Dreamz, JBX Wonder, Lefty, NYCT) following that which then he proclaimed the team’s name as “XILLICIT Music.”

The Takeaway: As he grew up he faced many issues with self and finding safe spaces to express himself completely. Due to the split household and him moving 10 times in the DMV area with both sides of his family. Never feeling like he can fully accept the environment and community around him and struggling to feel connected within his own home he found an outlet within his art, poetry, dance, music and more! He also faced many difficulties building relationships with others which brought a lot of issues within his life especially as a person who is very caring and loves to give. He found his truth within his music which helped him out of his anxiety and depression as he grew up. This gave him a better way to cope and express himself while dealing with life as well as watching others deal with life in comparison to his own! He found that his work brought out many different emotions within not just him but those he could share and experience it with allowing them to grow an individual bond with the art which then creates a coherent bond between those experiencing it with each other. In his own perspective he sees this as a very universal and undying connection to those who can find themselves within the art as well as finding themselves in others who can comprehend and connect to it. This builds a community of like minded individuals which can prolong his message of connection through individuals and communities throughout generations!

The Process: Its not easy to make art and there will always be many challenges! Troy has dealt with his own fair share like every other artist. Just like the starving artist aspect of it he made sure to hustle to become independent and create something very special to others! He found that throughout his struggles like having his team break up as he started his career in music at 17 years old. Other personal struggles included funding projects, finding places to network and connect with like minded individuals and artists who would like to collaborate. One thing he made sure to do was to save what money he could and get out there! Networking became one of the most important roles in his growth. He was able to go out and find open mics, meet other teams that wanted to collaborate and more! This then sparked the start of his journey to becoming a true Independent Artist!
